ROY ELDRIDGE MEMORABILIA

The memorabilia in this room belonged to Roy Eldridge and was nearly lost twice before arriving at the Sherman Jazz Museum. Roy Eldridge’s New York landlord put all contents, including horns, on the curb following Eldridge’s passing. Fortunately, it was recognized to have belonged to the jazz innovator and was taken to an estate dealer’s home, stored in his basement. Hurricane Sandy flooded that basement but once again the memorabilia was saved and partially restored. The memorabilia was auctioned with the Washington, D.C. Smithsonian losing the bid to the Sherman Jazz Museum.
